Good evening everyone, I hope this Wednesday is going well for you!
Today is Blogmas day 5 and I wanted to tell you guys my favorite books to read during this time of year. I love this time of year, if you haven’t gathered that yet, and the books are no exception. They aren’t necessarily about Christmas, as I only enjoy and finish a book if it leaves me with a certain feeling, a feeling that I have learned something new or really that the book was worth my time. I love reading so much, but since I read so many books for college, I rarely have time to read books that aren’t for school, but over vacation days I find some time. In terms of genre, I enjoy Romance and history the most. These books can all be found of Kindle, as that’s where I tend to read. I do prefer paper, however, there aren’t any great book stores around me.
I find reading relaxing and helpful when I need to get my mind off of everyday life. If anyone has any good recommendations for books please let me know! If you find yourself not reaching for books often, I really recommend reading at least one book of choice a month. I find it is helpful mentally and it gives you some “me” time. Reading is for sure a part of my pamper routines during the winter, like when I am home I tend to read while I am winding down or taking a bath. One of my Blogma’s days will consist of my “pamper routine”. This world goes way too quickly, meaning we don’t find enough time for ourselves during the week. Let’s change that. I think that giving the gift of a book is great and can be personal. It would be so sweet to write a little message on the inside of the first page to tell the person you love why you picked this story, and how it reminds you of them. It shows you listen, and understand their taste.
- Any Nicholas Sparks book. My favorites are “The Notebook” and “The Choice”. I know these aren’t “Christmasy”, however, I find them to be relaxing and centered about finding love through finding yourself. It is a very romantic time of year, so these books will make you feel all the love emotions.
- Pride and Prejudice: This book is a true classic, while also not being centered around the holiday, the theme is perfect for this time of year. My suggestion, cozy up in your favorite blanket and make yourself the biggest hot chocolate, as it is a longer read. I love historical love stories that don’t need to be centered around something that actually happened. I think anyone would enjoy this read! You will fall in love with Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy. After you finish this book, I suggest watching the movie with Kiera Knightly, I absolutely loved it!
- Christmas in Paris by Anita Hughes. I loved this super cozy read. I read this book not too long ago, and it was perfect for those of you who are looking for a book about love, trust, and self-discovery. Paris is the city of lights, not love, but most say the opposite. I am not sure why this popped into my head, but it did. What do you think it is? This book is set in one of the most romantic cities in the world, with amazing food, scenery, and love. Whats not to love? It is the perfect book before bed as it is very light.
- A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens: Again this is a great classic that was written in 1893. Everyone has heard of the grumpy and “Christmas-less” Ebenezer Scrooge. Now a days people call anyone who is not into the Christmas spirit Scrooge. It has been made into plays and movies, and is definitely worth the read for anyone at any age.
- The Nutcracker: I used to be in the ballet performance of “The Nutcracker” and always loved the story. It is a great story told by German writer E.T.A. Hoffmann. I remember reading this story as a kid and watching the Barbie version movie. (I loved it and probably still do, it’s okay no need to grow up too fast.)
- The Elves and the Shoemaker: This again is another great classic by the Grimm brothers, who were my personal favorite as a kid.
- The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Hans Christian Anderson: Hans Christian Anderson was one author I still remember by name from my childhood. I was lucky enough to grow up in a house where reading together was a huge part of our lives. My mo would read to me in Latvian and my dad in English. I can still remember my dads voice while reading me these stories. They are so special to me and I just love reliving the great memories. I still have all of my original books my dad bought me, as I could never give rid of them.
- Miracle of 34th street: As much as I love the movie, I love the book. The story is so timeless and wonderful that it could be read any time of year.
Thank you for taking time to be a part of my little part of the internet. I am so grateful. I have had so much fun writing so far, and I can’t wait to make my content better and better.
Come back tomorrow for day 6!
p.s: Is reading one of your biggest hobbies?
